PRECISION LAPPING & POLISHING MACHINE
The PR-1 - 85T Model is an 19" diameter double-sided planetary lapping and polishing machine capable of processing a wide variety of materials to very exacting tolerances of thickness, flatness, parallelism, and surface finish. The material to be processed is positioned in carriers (workholders) which are driven in a planetary motion between the top and bottom plates. The planetary action of the PR-1 simultaneously removes equal amounts of material from both sides of the part.

The new 85T model PR-1 joins three other plate size configurations, PR-1 66T, PR-1 50T, and PR-1 32T with the model designation corresponding with the carrier size that is used on that specific model. The standard configuration of the model 85T includes 1.5 horsepower variable speed DC motor with controller input of 208/230V, 50/60 Hz, stainless steel tub, automatic plate lifter, smooth cast-iron lapping plates, cast iron planetary drive gears, work table, a digital lap cycle timer, fused electrical disconnect panel, and bottom plate adjustment system.

85T -- OPTIONAL FEATURES

Automatic Digital Shut-off System - An LVDT digital gauge probe measures the separation of the plates and stops the machine automatically at a predetermined separation. The digital probe has a measurement range of 0.200" [5 mm] and is capable of an accuracy of +/- 0.0002" [5 micron].

Carriers (workholders) - Carriers are available in a variety of materials including; Lamitex^TM, phenolic, vinyl, spring & cold rolled steel, Polycarbonate (Lexan^®), and PVC. Carriers can be supplied with virtually any size and shape holes through the use of CNC Milling, Laser and EDM cutting, and in a wide range of "standard" punched hole sizes.

Conditioning Brush Carriers - Brush carriers are typically used daily to keep the pores of the pad free from spent polish and fine particles generated in the polishing process. Significant process improvements can be achieved by using conditioning brushes on a frequent fixed schedule.

Conditioning Gears - Rigid dressing gears are used to remove irregularities on the surface of the lapping plates.

Plate Flatness Gauge - Lap plate flatness gauge with an 0.000050" [~1 micron] indicator, granite flat, and case.

Stainless Steel Plates & Gears - Polishing machines should be configured with stainless steel ring gear, center gear, top, and bottom plates to reduce corrosion.
